Our five-week trip included Seoul, with a base in Myeongdong, and a week in Busan around the main shopping strip. For fourteen days, I would use seven nights in Seoul and six in Busan, leaving on day fourteen. That puts one hotel change in the middle and gives each city enough time for more than its busiest attraction.
This is a suggested family route built from our trip and additional outing ideas. It is not a diary of our original day-by-day movements. The simplest flight arrangement is into the Seoul area and out of Busan. If the return flight leaves from Seoul, change the final two days as described below.
The route at a glance
| Days | Sleep | Main idea |
|---|---|---|
| 1–7 | Seoul, seven nights | Myeongdong base, palace, markets, shopping districts and an indoor day. |
| 8–13 | Busan, six nights | One transfer day, then Gamcheon, shopping and separate coastal outings. |
| 14 | Depart Busan | Airport transfer and flight; keep the morning simple. |
Days 1–7: Seoul from Myeongdong
| Day | Plan | Family pacing |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrive and settle into the room. Take a short Myeongdong walk if arrival time allows. | Dinner close to the accommodation, with no timed attraction. |
| 2 | Gyeongbokgung Palace and a meal nearby. | Explore a manageable part of the grounds; stop when the children have had enough. |
| 3 | Namdaemun Market and Sungnyemun Gate. | Return to the room before an optional street-food evening. |
| 4 | Insadong's shops and a short section of Cheonggyecheon. | Keep the walking route modest and check step-free access to the stream if needed. |
| 5 | An indoor family outing, such as SEA LIFE COEX, Seoul Aquarium. | Choose the attraction before booking; leave the rest of the afternoon open. |
| 6 | Hongdae for shops and an early dinner. | Start after lunch rather than stretching the visit into a full day and late night. |
| 7 | Namsan or a repeat visit to the district the family most wants to revisit. | Finish any shopping, do laundry if needed and pack for the train. |
Swap these days to match opening calendars. I would not put a fixed rail departure directly after a long sightseeing morning.
Day 8: Seoul to Busan by train
Book the Seoul Station–Busan Station journey through KORAIL's official booking site. Select the correct dates and child categories and check the actual train's journey time. Reserve seats together where available. Do not assume a Tmoney card buys or reserves a KTX seat.
I would have breakfast, check out and make the station the main job of the morning. Keep tickets handy, check the carriage and seat numbers, and leave time to handle bags without rushing. After arrival, travel to the accommodation and eat nearby. The first Busan evening can be a local walk; it does not need a second journey across the city.

Days 9–13: Busan, one area at a time
| Day | Plan | Family pacing |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | Nampo/Gwangbok-ro shopping, with a choice of Gukje Market or BIFF Square. | Browse and eat in the same part of the city instead of trying to cover every market. |
| 10 | Gamcheon Culture Village. | Make a short hillside visit with breaks; expect slopes and stairs. Use a bus or taxi for the uphill approach where useful. |
| 11 | Haeundae and a booked Sky Capsule outing if wanted. | Keep this as the day's main activity and plan the return from the other end of the capsule route. |
| 12 | Gwangalli Beach for a walk and a meal. | Treat swimming as a separate seasonal decision and follow local conditions; a beach day can simply be time on the shore. |
| 13 | Repeat a favourite area or keep the day for shopping near the accommodation. | A spare day absorbs rain, tired legs and anything missed earlier. Pack before dinner. |
| 14 | Check out and depart from Busan. | Match the transfer to the actual airport and flight time. |
Choosing a Busan base
We stayed around the main shopping strip. For this suggested route, I would compare Nampo/Gwangbok-ro, useful for the older shopping and market districts, with Seomyeon, a central metro connection. Those are proposed bases, not the name of our own hotel or a claim about its exact street.
Choose one hotel and accept that the coast is a separate outing. Check the walk from the station, the beds and whether the approach involves steps. Moving rooms to be near every attraction would add work to a family trip.
Two different kinds of train in Busan
The metro gets you around the city. The Haeundae Sky Capsule is a separately ticketed sightseeing ride between Mipo and Cheongsapo. The operator lists a journey of about thirty minutes, with the reservation covering an entry window rather than a guaranteed departure minute. Book the correct starting station and work out the return journey separately. The Beach Train is another service with its own ticket arrangements.
If your flight leaves from Seoul
Move back to Seoul on day 13, stay near a convenient onward connection and depart on day 14. That changes the night split to seven nights in Seoul first, five in Busan and one final Seoul night. Keep the international flight separate from the long intercity move where possible. Do not use the original day-13 shopping plan as well.
For food ideas, use our Myeongdong top five. For more time in both cities, the three-week route keeps a full week in Busan. Our journal contains the memories and photographs behind these plans.
